Baby’s First Botox: My First Appointment and Progress Pics!

It’s December 29th, 2021, which makes me exactly 25 years and 11 months old. Staring down the second half of my twenties, I did what any rational girl would do and scheduled my first Botox appointment.

The past 2 years have aged us all at least an extra decade, and I can’t say there’s an end in sight. We’re constantly furrowing out brows at the latest headlines, statistics, emails in our inboxes. I already have some deep lines formed on my forehead, but the cool thing about Botox is that it can soften those existing lines, and help prevent new ones from forming. Can’t think of a better 26th birthday present to myself than that.

I have prior experience with injectables. I had Restalyne lip filler done in late January of 2020. I always credit this as the worst financial investment of my life, given the world only saw my lips for a mere 6 weeks before we began masking our nose and mouth in public for the foreseeable…forever. Yeah, it still stings. Pour one out for me this New Years. If you want to read about my filler experience in detail – check out my post here.

I had my Botox consultation with Varsha Patel, NP at MagnificaSkin MedSpa in Wilmington, DE. She walked me through the process, and then mapped out our plan. My goal is to soften my existing lines in my forehead, and firm up the crease between my brows/above my nose. Varsha let me know that the muscles in everyone’s face are unique, and each person requires individual placement and dosage for optimal results. I learned that the muscles on the left side of my brow, for example, are a lot stronger than on the right, so she adjusted the markings accordingly.

Once all the markings were in place, it’s time to inject! I’m not squeamish with needles: I’ve had my share of lip filler, piercings, tattoos, blood donations, COVID vaccines. Varsha called me hardcore, but come on, no one likes the idea of needles going into their face. Trying to remain completely objective, I found Botox to be a nearly painless experience. On a scale from 1 to 10, I’d give it a 1. A friend of mine who HATES needles gave it a 2. Anyone could handle it, and it’s all over in about 3 minutes.

If you go in for this procedure, expect some mild inflammation around the injection site for about 30 minutes afterwards — truly in an hour, no one would know you’ve had anything done. Also take care not to press on or rub the area until the next day, which can risk migrating the product to unwanted areas of the face.

All in all, I got 19 units, 10 between the brows and 9 masterfully dispersed throughout my forehead. I took some fabulous before pics – and stay tuned for my 1 week and 2 week results!!
